Water Polo

  • Led Sequoia High School to two League Championships in 1947 & 1948
  • A member of the All American High School Swim Team in 1950
  • All Pacific Coast Conference, while at Stanford, during 1951, 1952 & 1953 swim seasons
  • Stanford Water Polo Captain 1953
  • A.A.U. All American in 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958 & 1959
  • Member of the National A.A.U. Champion San Francisco Olympic Club in 1957 & 1959
  • Member of the National Water Polo Hall of Fame
  • Member of the 1956 Olympic Water Polo Team
  • Coached the 1963 NCAA Stanford Water Polo National Champions
  • A member of the US Olympic Water Polo Committee

Swimming

  • Led the Sequoia Swim Team to a 2nd place finish in 1949 NCS Swimming Championships
  • Won 200 Meter Freestyle and 150 Individual Championships at 1950 NCS Swim Championships
  • Tied Palo Alto for the 1950 NCS Championship
  • 1950 All American High School Swim Team
  • Stanford University Swim Team Captain 1954
  • Two time NCAA Swimming All American 1953 & 1954
  • Coached Stanford’s 1967 NCAA Champions. His teams earned two 3rd, one 4th, and two 6th place finishes
  • Head Stanford Swimming Coach for 19 years (1960-1979)
  • Coached the Stanford Women’s Swim Team1976-1979, finishing 3rd or higher, nationally, each year
  • His overall Stanford coaching record, in the highly competitive PAC 8 conference, was 119-64
  • Jim was Assistant Athletic Director at Stanford during 1979 & 1980, retiring from Stanford in July 1980
  • Voted to membership in the Stanford University Sports Hall of Fame

Jim found time to graduate from Stanford Law School. Jim & his wife, Joan enjoy the good life in Ketchum, Idaho.
